An agri-food cooperative model from Greece

In 2018 on the small island of Tilos in Greece a small cooperative company was created which operates in the agri-food sector. This production unit does not operate on the conventional terms of a typical capitalist enterprise. Very soon, the social character of this business model emerged through the integration into the production process of the refugees who lived in the hospitality center of the island.

With the practical help of the small Swiss municipality of Menier and the UNHCR, this project took shape by demonstrating the importance of social and solidarity economy, not only for the economic prosperity of a place but also for the benefits it offers on the social level.
